Intel Experiences Atom Supply Shortage Due to Overwhelming Demand

After the recent launch of Intel Atom processor (codenamed Silverthorne) to public, it has brought much traction to both the handheld and embedded market place. The newly release Atom family processors is said to have excellent performance per watt ratio as compared to its predecessor and even competitors products. However, it seems that the famous thermal efficient processor doesn’t able to cater for huge demand from board vendors. The Taiwan based company, Asustek is among one of the affected customers that is struggling with limited supply from Intel Corp.

Apple’s Acquisition of PA Semi Threaten Intel in iPhone Positioning?

Apple’s recent announcement of acquisition plan for PA Semi, a famous multi-core processors developer for embedded market with a huge acquisition cost of $278 million has triggered much speculation on what is the potential next step of the giant computer maker. Some of us may start wondering if such an act will threaten Intel as previous rumors of positioning its newly released ultra small form factor and low TDP (Thermal Design Power) Atom processor for Apple’s next generation iPhone may not come true. Portwell Demonstrated New Intel Atom Based UMPC for Mobile Market

Cogent Launches SODIMM-based System-on-Module PC for Embedded Market

Have you even seen computer module that can be plugged into SODIMM interface? SODIMM interface is typically designed for external memory module to be plugged on the motherboard. But now the 200-pins interface usage has been extended to support the main core processor so that it is upgradeable in a later stage when existing processor no longer suits your need. Known as CBS737, the SOM (system-on-module) is developed by Cogent Computer Systems and is ready for embedded market.
