Windows 8 Upgrades Get Way More Expensive After February 1

If you’ve not upgraded to Windows 8 yet, you should grab your license now. Microsoft has announced on its blog that the low prices for Windows 8 will end on January 31st, 2013, and after that you’ll need to pay full retail price.

How to Remove Pinned Programs From the Taskbar in Windows 7

One of Windows 7 great features is to allow users to pin some of their most frequently used programs on the Taskbar for easy execution or running. Users, by default, will be able to have a quick thumbnail preview of running programs when their mouse cursor moves over these pinned programs. Users generally will find this feature pretty useful as it enhances the accessibility to their frequently executed programs. However, there might be users who are not comfortable with this feature and want to disable it. How to Change the Default Setting for Power Button Action in Windows 7

By default, the start menu power button in Windows 7 is set to “Shut Down”. This may be preferred by some users while others may find it inconvenient. For instance, many users have complained about accidentally clicking on the power button and shutting down the computer while it is still in use. How to Remove Recycle Bin Icon in Windows 7

By default, Windows 7 users will notice the Recycle Bin icon appear automatically on the desktop. It allows users to have quick and easy access to the bin to clean/restore files. Having said that, some users might not like the idea and think it is an eyesore. Hence, if users prefer, they can easily hide the Recycle Bin icon from the desktop. With some simple setting, users will be able to remove the Recycle Bin icon from the desktop. However, this approach will not stop the Recycle Bin from functioning or prohibiting other people from access it via the Recycle Bin folder itself.

How to Enable PAE on 32-bit Windows Vista for 4 GB or More Memory

Intel introduced the 36-bit physical addressing mode called PAE (Physical Address Extension, read Wikipedia reference or MSDN reference) since Intel Pentium Pro processor to allow 32-bit operating systems to use more than 4 GB of physical memory. However, even with x86 or x86-x64 PAE supported CPU processor, in most Windows system, PAE is disabled by default, and user has to manually turn on the PAE support in operating system in order to recognize and use more than 4 GB of physical RAM memory, with the exception of Windows Vista.
