How To Fix Windows Phone 8.1 Periodically Reboots/Restart For Lumia 730, 830, and 1520

Just a week after Microsoft released Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 to Windows Phone 8.1 users, a critical update has rolled out to the Lumia 730, Lumia 830 and Lumia 1520. The new critical update bumps the OS version to 8.10.14234.375 and the firmware version to 02040.00021.15063.02004.

The latest update is not Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 (Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2), it is a patch for fixes a critical issue that may cause Windows Phone to periodically reboot.

This is due to recently Windows Phone users complaints to Microsoft that facing problem in Windows Phone 8.1 that could cause a device to restart periodically. The update is available for downloaded and install to Windows Phone through phone update.

If you’re facing the issue and are yet to see an update, here how to update your Windows Phone 8.1: –

Update Windows Phone through Phone update

  1. Go to the App list, tap Settings icon > Phone update > Check for updates. Check if have an update available, download and install the update.

Update Windows Phone using an app

  1. Download “Stop Restart app” to Windows Phone.
  2. Once install, launch it, and then follow the step by step instruction in the app.
  3. The app will display either of two results:

Your phone is OK. Your phone is fixed, and you don’t need to do anything else.

We need to fix your phone. Follow the “To fix your phone using a PC” steps in this topic if the app wasn’t able to do so.

Update Windows Phone through Windows PC

  1. Connect Windows phone with USB cable to PC that is connected to the Internet.
  2. Unlock phone if have set a lock screen password.
  3. On PC, run Microsoft Fix it Solution – Stop Phone Restart.
  4. Once run, leave phone turned on and connected. During the process the phone will restart and display spinning gears with a progress bar. It should take a few minutes for the process to complete.
  5. After the process is completed, Windows phone will be fixed and display the message “Update successful.”
  6. Tap All done.

Note: Make sure that phone’s battery is completely full and don’t disconnect or use your phone

Update: The update is available for Lumia 535, 930, and 1320 in Sweden, Lumia 520, 525, 620, and 630 in India, AT&T Lumia 1520, and the Verizon Lumia Icon.
