Although, lots of mobile messaging app offer free phone call features such as Viber, Line, Skype, Kakao talk, and more. Now, with the latest WhatsApp update, it comes with new voice calling feature to allow user call through internet connection, as long as both parties have WhatsApp Messenger installed.

WhatsApp user can call another WhatsApp Messenger user for free, whether the recipient is located in same country (local) or overseas (international), and vice versa for receiving call. However, WhatsApp user need connect over Wi-Fi wireless or through 3G data connection.

WhatsApp Messenger needs update to latest version 2.12.5 either from the Google Play Store or WhatsApp’s website to enjoy new voice calling feature. Once updated, WhatsApp will offer new, cleaner layout, with three tabs for Calls, Chats, and Contacts. Just simply tap on the Calls tab and select a contact from contact list to make a phone call.

The screen will change to WhatsApp call with profile picture. If someone calls from WhatsApp, the phone screen will show incoming WhatsApp call screen. When phone call, it allow user switch to speakerphone, mute the call and view the time spent during the call. In addition, the Calls tab also provides all phone call history such as incoming, outgoing, and missed WhatsApp calls.

Google Play Store currently only offers the older version 2.12.19. If want access to the voice calling feature right now, just download the Android application package (APK) file of WhatsApp version 2.12.5 from the link below:

Unfortunately, the new voice calling feature currently only available for Android platform, according WhatsApp cofounder Brian Acton commenting at F8, the iOS platform should receive within the next few weeks.
