Intel introduced the 36-bit physical addressing mode called PAE (Physical Address Extension, read Wikipedia reference or MSDN reference) since Intel Pentium Pro processor to allow 32-bit operating systems to use more than 4 GB of physical memory. However, even with x86 or x86-x64 PAE supported CPU processor, in most Windows system, PAE is disabled by default, and user has to manually turn on the PAE support in operating system in order to recognize and use more than 4 GB of physical RAM memory, with the exception of Windows Vista.

Whenever user connect a Windows Mobile device to Windows Vista Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) via a USB cable, WMDC fails to connect to the Pocket PC (PPC) Phone device, causing synchronization not start or fail. In 64-bit (x64) Windows operating system, including Windows Vista, Microsoft implements a feature called File System Redirector on WOW64 (Windows-32-on-Windows-64 that runs 32-bit programs without modifications) subsystem layer for 32-bit programs or DLL (dynamic link libraries) which provides a WOW64 sandbox for registry calls and some file system calls. The filesystem redirection forces 32-bit application attempts to be installed into or accessed from %windir%\System32, been intercepted and get redirected or re-pointed to %windir%\SysWOW64 instead.

In Windows Vista or Windows Vista SP1, when user clicks on Device Manager on Tasks list on the left pane of the Control Panel System page, which can be open by right clicking on Computer and select Properties, the system does not response nor open up Device Manager window. However, the rest of the tasks, i.e. Remote Settings, System Protection and Advanced System Settings, the System Properties dialog can be opened, which user can then open Device Manager from the Hardware tab successfully. Or, the user can also open Device Manager directly from System and Maintenance in Control Panel without problem.

Microsoft AppLocale is an utility that allows Windows users to run non-Unicode legacy (code-page based) applications in different language from system locale on Windows XP or Server 2003 without changing the system locale. AppLocale is been used in Windows Vista too, although not officially supported, to simulate a system locale which fits the codepage of the non-Unicode programs so that the character sets can be displayed properly and readable.
