Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced the next version of windows 8.1 preview at its annual build developer’s conference. Windows 8.1 improve the user experience by returns with start button, but it only flings you into the Start Screen.  In addition, it also enhanced multitasking, universal search, virtual keyboard and gestures improvements.

How To Download Windows 8.1 Preview For Free

Although, Windows 8.1 Preview is a beta-level operating system, it is available for download via Windows Store. Here’s a step-by-step guide for downloading and installing the Windows 8.1 Preview.

There are two ways to install Windows 8.1 Preview. In order to install Windows 8.1 Preview you will need to sign in to your PC with a Microsoft account.

  1. Head to the Microsoft.com for Windows 8.1 Preview page.

  2. Click the “Get it now” button to install an update that will allow you to access Windows 8.1 Preview from the Windows Store.
  3. Restart PC.
  4. Once restart PC, Windows will automatically install update for Windows Store.
  5. After finished install, PC will reboot and you will be able to access Windows 8.1 Preview from the Windows Store.
  6. Click “Go to the Store” button. The Windows Store page for Windows 8.1 Preview will appear which contain the link and information about Windows 8.1 Preview including the FAQ.

  7. Windows 8.1 Preview will begin install once click the “Download” button. And follow the screen instruction during the installation process.

  8. After completed installation, you will need to sign in with a Microsoft account to use the enhanced cloud capabilities of Windows 8.1 Preview.

Note: if upgrade to the preview version, reinstall all apps (Modern apps and desktop apps) it need before move to the release-to-manufacturing (RTM) version. It is recommended downloading the ISO and installing it in a virtual machine or a separate partition.

  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster
  • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
  • Free hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • Graphics card: MicrosoftDirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

Windows RT 8.1 Preview requires that you have a PC already running Windows RT with 10 GB of free storage space.

The Windows 8.1 Preview is available in Arabic, English (US), Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish.
