Thank You! My error message simply aid that Update Service could not continue… Microsoft online tech support frustratingly failed THREE TIMES to determine the problem. They told me to try phone support. I hate Microsoft! Pathetic idiot software developers. If the message was about the licensing service why didn't it simply state the "The required Licensing Service is not running"?

Anyways After I started the service, updates run okay again. After 4 months of stalled updates. Talk about a security problem.!! Damn them… Go Linux (Yes I have to use MS on my laptop – Linux through Virtualization).

I tried this and when I try to restart the service through services.msc it gives me the same error message and won't restart.

With the elevated cmd prompt it tells me the service name is invalid

Went through these steps and the service indicated it was running. I stopped and restarted it and still my screen says my copy is not genuine. I bought this copy of Windows on a laptop custom made by a respected PC manufacturer. I don't know what else to do, so I'll get help from their tech support people. It's always something when it's microsoft!
