See Through Building With Litracon
The fundamental basics of buildings is to provide shelter and protection to people. Unless it is an office space or workstation, most people need an enclosed space for personal living and privacy. However, against conventional practices, a Hungarian architect Aron Losonczi, has developed a see-through concrete called Litracon (Light Transmitting Concrete) which can be used for both residential and commercial purposes.
Litracon is not something new to the market and it had been introduced a couple of years ago. This unique product is recently exhibited at the American Institute of Architects’ Center for Architecture until 25 April. Architects, designers, contractors, etc who haven’t been exposed to this interesting innovation can have a glimpse of it. Litracon is made of fine concrete and thousands of optical glass fibres that run parallel to each other from one end of a poured piece of concrete to the other. Due to its design, these prefabricated blocks can easily and effectively allow light to be transmitted over. It’s strong yet transparent enough for natural light to shine through.
Litracon could be suitable for internal partitions or artistic enhancements. This new material would definitely add to overall enhancement of architecture or interior design. It would be interesting to see if someone dared to use it to build a whole house though. This would be one see-through buidling to look forward to!
