Microsoft Resumes Installation of Vista KB949939 and KB937287 Prerequisite via Windows Update
KB937287 is one of the prerequisite updates that must be installed on Windows Vista PC before the system can be upgraded and installed with Service Pack 1 (SP1). The KB 937287 update intends to upgrade the Servicing Stack layer in Windows Vista, which contains installation program for SP1. Unfortunately, lots of users experience various problems such as unable to install the update, or even worse, computer falls into endless reboot cycle.
As a result, Microsoft stops and suspends automatic distribution and rolling out the KB937287 Servicing Stack Update (SSU) one week after it’s put on Automatic Updates in February.
After months of investigation, Microsoft finally gets the solution to the problem, in the form of additional pre-SSU (KB949939) update. KB949939 has to be installed prior to the SP1 Servicing Stack Update to ensure a smooth install of the SSU by working to prevent the system from rebooting during the SP1 SSU installation. Beside, the KB937287 now requires KB949939 before it can be installed. In other word, now there is one more prerequisite update for Windows Vista SP1.
Thus, the automatic update and installation of the Servicing Stack Update (KB937287), and prior to it, KB949939 update has been resuming since April 8, 2008.
If you want to install these updates yourself, download it from Microsoft Download Center:
32-bit KB949939 (Windows6.0-KB949939-x86.msu)
64-bit KB949939 (Windows6.0-KB949939-x64.msu)
32-bit KB937287 (Windows6.0-KB937287-v2-x86.msu)
64-bit KB937287 (Windows6.0-KB937287-v2-x64.msu)
Apparently, Microsoft has also already published Windows Vista SP1 on Windows Update for public distribution.
