Hey Jojo, you can go to registry and remove anything which says AVG. People says its dangerous to edit the registry, but really its too easy and safe. First of all make a system restore point. I am sure you know how to do it.
in run type command ‘regedit’ and click ‘ok’
click File and then click Export. It will prompt for file name, just type ‘reg backup’ and click save. It will backup your whole registry. this should be some 50-70 MB file.
Next click ‘Edit’ and then ‘Find’. In the search box which opens, type ‘AVG’. It will take you to the first registy value of AVG. Simply right click on it and delete it. then in ‘Edit’ click ‘Find Next’ and carry on doing it till the dialogue comes that nothing found.
a word of caution. Just take a minute or two to read the registry and check that it actually belongs to AVG antivirus and not to something else. As we all know XP’s search system is not that great. But it will get the job done. Dont delete ‘AVGeneralNotification’ and similar keys. These do not belong to AVG antivirus.
After deleting all related keys, reboot and your problem will be solved. If you think that something wrong has happened just double click on the saved ‘reg backup’ and your registry will be as it was.

Hey Jojo, forgot to tell. You can play safe and use CCleaner. Its a free software and will most probably delete all orphan entries left behind by AVG and other softwares after uninstallation. In future for any uninstall you can use Revo Uninstaller (freeware) or Your Uninstaller (paid).
