Thanks. This drove me nuts.. I couldn't figure out why IE7 kept failing.. then it dawned on me the only difference was I was now pushing out XP SP3. So did some searching and you answered my question. thanks!

To all:

It looks like Windows Update center hasn't yet adjusted for XP SP3 since after IE7 installation no updates are shown for it, when in fact there are two critical updates for this browser: IE7-WindowsXP-KB938127-x86-ENU.exe and IE7-WindowsXP-KB947864-x86-ENU.exe

I suspect something is not set up properly on windowsupdate.microsoft.com

To Transcontinental:

You'd better install SP3 *before* installing IE7 since it brings some libraries which have a higher major number than the ones in SP3.

This article is interesting not only for those who should encounter difficulties to install IE7 after XP SP3, but also obviously for those, like me, who intend to reinstall completely Windows XP.

As I see it, slipstreaming XP SP3 with original XP install disk (whatever) is not advised should it be only for IE7 install possible problems when installing over XP SP3 ... consequently, the procedure for a complete XP reinstall should be :

1- Install XP + XP SP2 (most have a slipstreamed disk of SP1+SP2 already)

2- Install IE7 7.0.5730.13

3- Install XP SP3

Is this correct?
